Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm laughed on Friday at a question about promoting domestic oil production in the US, calling it “hilarious”.
Noticing rising gas prices in America, Bloomberg host Tom Keene asked the Energy Secretary, “What is the Granholm Plan to Boost Oil Production in America?”
Granholm immediately started laughing. “That’s hilarious,” she said. If I had the wand for that. ”
BIDEN TARGETS THE OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY WITH A PLAN FOR METHANE EMISSIONS TO COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE
“As you know, oil is of course a global market. It is controlled by a cartel. This cartel is called OPEC, and they decided yesterday that they would not go beyond what they had planned.”
President Biden has revised the American approach to his oil industry.
In June, Biden suspended oil well leases at the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, the latest in a series of major policy changes in the US approach to the oil industry.
Since taking office, Biden has signed a number of wide-ranging environmental executive orders, including the suspension of new federal oil leases, the resumption of the Paris Climate Agreement, the removal of subsidies to the fossil fuel industry, the revocation of the Keystone XL pipeline permits and the conversion of the vehicle fleet to electric propulsion .
Republicans have hammered the Biden administration for relying on OPEC to deal with soaring gas prices rather than boosting domestic oil production.

In an August letter to Biden, 24 Republican senators called it “amazing that your administration should now seek support from an international oil cartel when America has sufficient domestic supplies and reserves to increase production, which would lower gasoline prices.”
“Your administration’s domestic oil and gas exploration policies harm American consumers and workers, run counter to an America First energy agenda, and add to reliance on foreign oil,” added the senators.
